Decorating Tips: What Every Room Should Have

Not all rooms are created equal.  From small foyers to grand living rooms with high-rise ceilings, it is hard to list out particular decor that every room needs.  Maybe a living room needs a couch, but perhaps a laundry room or bathroom could go without this obtrusive piece.  While some spaces do not have the same furniture needs, there are several elements that can improve almost every room.  To help you master these elements, we put together a list of some of the most important attributes that can help enhance the room’s atmosphere. Let’s take a look!

Color

Every room can benefit from color.  Adding a colored accent piece or just a powerful primary color to a room can completely change the room’s feel.  In fact, color has such an impact that using warm tones or cool tones can help establish the “mood” of the room.  Contrary colors can be used to create depth or even develop a focal point.  Colors can help you brighten or darken a room to set the tone.  You can even use a splash of color to add more life to a space. Color is one of the most versatile design elements that helps create the ultimate look.

Texture

Never underestimate the power of texture.  Rooms without texture can feel two-dimensional.  By adding rugs, tapestry, distressed woods, or other textured pieces to a room, you instantly make the room more interactive. Design goes beyond visual aesthetics.  True design can be captured through other senses than just the eyes.

Plants

Spruce up your space by adding different types of plant life.  From succulents to flowers, there are so many diverse ways to add plant life to your room.  Plants can not only be visually appealing, but they add life by also freshening up the air.  Try adding plants to a room that seems dull and watch the atmosphere change.

Light

The light you use to illuminate your space is critical.  Try to find the right hues and brightness to keep your space lively.  A poorly-lit space can be quite dreary.  Figuring out effective ways to brighten an area is one of the most important ways you can create how your room feels.

Simple tactics can always be used to spruce up your home.  From hallways to half baths, no room is too small to be left unloved.  Allow your design to go beyond the main rooms and have your whole home overflowing with life and style!
