Where to Install Hardwood Floors

Many years ago, when you were building a home, it was normal to install hardwood floors throughout the entire house. However, over the years, homeowners’ style changed, and new items came to the market like wall-to-wall carpet. In the past, we looked at hardwood floors only as a functional subfloor. Today, we look at hardwood floors for their beauty, durability, and cleaning ease. In fact, we are now designing homes that are geared towards interior design and innovative environmental trends.

Investing in Your Home’s Future

Hardwood floors are on trend with many different interior design styles. They were initially more costly to install, but considering their durability and longevity, they are a smart investment. In fact, typically, your hardwoods will last three or four generations. So if you install wall-to-wall carpet, its initial cost is much less than hardwood, but you are maintaining and updating the carpet every few years. Most of us would rather dust mop hardwoods than vacuum and deep clean carpet. Plus, active families with children and pets often steer clear of carpet, but some still prefer carpet in bedrooms. If you fall into this category, do not overlook using an area rug with a thick pad over your hardwood floors.

Diverse Application

With today’s technology and the products used to prolong the life of hardwood, many homeowners are installing hardwood floors in high traffic areas, even kitchens. Look online for the current combination of floor products and where they are installed. You will see that hardwoods are in foyers, great rooms, hallways, and even bedrooms with area rugs.

Know Your Lifestyle

However, you might consider using ceramic tile or natural stone products in kitchens, laundry, mudrooms, and baths. Your everyday lifestyle always plays an essential role in determining what to use and where. We like to say use hard flooring in areas where the family does not linger and rest on the floor; typically, these are rooms that serve as workrooms.

Enjoy the beauty and ease of maintaining your hardwood floors while realizing that you have invested in a product that will pay for itself over time! We always love to hear from our customers about what you chose and why. Please drop us a line in the comment section.
