Nordic Interior Design Elements

Nordic Interior Design, also known as Scandinavian, is recognized for its modernism, simplicity, and focus on functionality. Many people associate the style with IKEA furniture, but mastering the design goes beyond buying furniture and décor. This sophisticated look has certain elements which make it easily recognized. If you are looking to incorporate this look in your own home, here are the top five tips you need to follow:

Hard Surface Flooring

You will rarely find carpet in Nordic Design. This clean-cut look takes pride in its simplicity and dapper appeal. Luxury vinyl planking and hardwood are typically the most common floor. You can still have area rugs if you desire but look for low profile and simple options.

Sleek and Functional

Décor should reflect minimalism. Walls are kept clean and empty typically. Functionality is a crucial element to the design. If you add furniture, sleek is key! This dapper look flows very elegantly with simple lines.

Monochromatic/Muted Tones

When you think of Nordic design, you should think monochromatic design. The hard contrast of black and white allows the design to pop. This sophisticated look can still have neutral tone colors in it. If you do apply color, keep it subtle. Try to use muted or pastel tones, so you do not influence a mood in the atmosphere.

Plants

With a lack of color, plants are commonly used to add life to the atmosphere. Do not be shy about adding large plants as a focal point or incorporating succulents throughout your space. Plants will allow the atmosphere to feel lived in and more inviting.

Minimalism

Nordic Design uses its natural light, woods, and muted tones to open the space. Do not go in and crowd it after you put in the work. Be very selective on your décor. This style is truly rooted in a “less is more” foundation.

With these five tips in your arsenal, you are ready to create a beautiful Nordic oasis. Remember to keep it fresh and open. The environment thrives off simplicity and functionality. For more tips on design themes, make sure to subscribe!
