Tips for Using Leftover Interior Paint

If you are like most homeowners, you will have a leftover supply of interior house paint. With a little creativity and a little elbow grease, you can transform a piece of furniture, picture frame, and a lamp or two into fresh, new accessories for the home! You can look around the house, wander into second-hand stores, and go to yard sales in search of pieces you love! Also, keep in mind that generally, these pieces are not that large and can be kept until you are ready to transform into that special piece!

Second-Hand Furniture

Look in your garage, basement, or attic for unused pieces of furniture. Start visiting local thrift stores and cruising unique neighborhoods for yard and garage sales. Do not limit yourself only to furniture. Look for architectural decorative gates, corbels, and cast iron works of art. Old dressers are also perfect for adding additional storage while adding special interest to the room.

Kitchen Knick-Knacks

Start looking in your kitchen for flower pots, canisters, trivets, picture frames, and light fixtures. How about painting the base of your kitchen island with a different color? Small items take very little paint and are a perfect way to make your kitchen items unique. Just by freshening up a few kitchen items with leftover paint is the ideal opportunity to add pops of color!

Built-Ins & Doors

Bookcases, china cabinets, and fireplace mantels can add a dramatic flair by painting the back inside with a complimentary color. Plus, fireplace mantels are always the focal point of any room. Add pizzazz by painting the mantel a contrasting color, or add some glam by painting architectural details with bronze, silver or gold paint. Just do not overlook painting an interior, exterior door, or doorway the perfect accent color. Remember the attention to the details!

Outdoor Living Space

This is the perfect place to use leftover paint. Do you have patio or deck furniture that needs revamping? Paint your tabletop a different color than the legs, or vice versa. Also, painting flowerpots and window boxes with a vibrant color make your outdoor space feel happy and inviting! You can also paint a design or a border on the patio concrete or deck. Or you can refresh garden statuaries by painting them with leftover paint that complements your furniture and accessories.

As always, we would love to hear your personal tips and ideas for revamping your household with paint.
