Luxury Vinyl Planking Pros and Cons

Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring has been dominating the flooring market for the last several years. A once predominantly carpet-led market has taken a giant turn into becoming a primarily LVP marketplace. If you are unfamiliar, Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is a snap-together, floating floor that can work in almost any environment. It is an extremely versatile and durable product. This feature is one of the many reasons why homeowners and businesses have turned to luxury vinyl for their flooring needs. If you want to learn more to see if it is right for you, here are some of the pros and cons that LVP has to offer:

Pro – Durability

Luxury Vinyl Planking is exceptionally durable. It is usually marketed as kid-proof, pet-proof, and waterproof. Being this durable allows it to be used in even heavy-duty environments such as commercial applications.

Con – Cost

LVP is a good bang for your buck; however, it is not the most inexpensive flooring option on the market. It does, however, come with a built-in underlayment and is floating, which can save you on installation, glue, and product.

Pro- Waterproof

Many fallbacks of flooring options are its ability to be installed in wet environments. Typically tile and sheet vinyl dominated this market. However, LVP has become superior as it proves time and time again to be waterproof. This is excellent for many applications like laundry rooms, basements, bathrooms, and kitchen where other flooring systems could fail.

Con – Warmth

While not as cold as tile or hardwood, LVP is not the warmest flooring option. The built-in backing can help insulate the flooring, yet it does not hold warmth as carpet would.

Pro – Floating

Being a floating floor can allow you to install this floor over many different surfaces. Since floating floors are installed directly over your subfloor, they do not take much prep, if any, and can be very easy to install. This process is just one more benefit, making these flooring systems so versatile.

Con – Extended Comfort

LVP is not a floor that you will be lying down on or sitting on for long periods of time. This floor is more comfortable than tile yet not comparable to products like carpet.

LVP is a very versatile product. You will want to look at the pros and cons and decide if it is right for your home. Since every floor can come with different aspects to consider, it is important to understand what works best for your family’s lifestyle.
