Is Stainless Steel Still Relevant in Design?

Stainless steel has become extremely desirable in homes over the last decade. Many homeowners have turned away from the traditional styling of neutral beiges, light hardwoods, and tan countertops, towards a new era of monochromatic, modern grey designs. However, as this decade draws to a close, we are starting to see less desire to incorporate stainless steel.  So, we must ask ourselves the question “is stainless steel still relevant in design?” Let’s look and see!

What is Stainless Steel?

Stainless steel is a rust-proof option for many kitchen appliances. Since stainless is not necessarily a “color,” it is easy to buy different manufacture appliances in this material while still allowing your kitchen to match. Refrigerators, freezers, ovens, ranges, microwaves, and toasters all come in this material. In fact, you can build a durable and scratch-resistant kitchen of your dreams by simply incorporating stainless steel. Some homeowners even go a step further and have incorporated stainless steel mosaic tile backsplashes or even the occasional stainless steel countertop for added beauty and durability.

The Ever-Changing World of Interior Design

The world of interior design is always evolving. Whether it is designs and styles of flooring, countertops, or appliances, you will quickly notice that trends change. Where minimalism once reigned supreme, maximalism is now back in style, and we have seen granite countertops being replaced by marble. We can even notice that carpet used to be 70% of the flooring industry’s products and now, hard surface flooring and LVP options are more superior than ever. So where does this put stainless steel? Will we see the traditional white appliances return? Perhaps, colored appliances will start becoming more of a dramatic accent in the kitchen.

Is Stainless Steel Still Relevant?

Well, the easiest way to begin foreshadowing the design industry is to look at sales. We can quickly see that sales for stainless steel appliances have still yet to follow back. The traditional white and black appliances sales continue to go down as we see stainless steel remain at the top. So, it is safe to say that investing in stainless steel appliances is not going to be a bad or overly-trendy decision.

Stainless steel appliances are not only loved for their diversity in what design styles they can complement, but they are also appreciated for their durability and stain-resistance. So rest assured in your decision of buying stainless steel.
