Cleaning Tips for Homeowners Selling Their Home

Spring is officially here, and your home is listed “For Sale.” While you may be excited to move on to the next adventure, there are some things you will need to do in order to sell your home. Everyone knows that exterior curb appeal affects a buyer’s perception of the home’s value as well as prompts buyers to walk through the door. Once inside, the home’s interior needs to speak to the buyer and welcome them. To help you set your home apart from the rest, we have listed a few basic tasks that will help you do so:

Wash Windows

You would be surprised by the number of sellers that forget this task. By washing the windows, you are allowing the natural light to flood in and fill the room. Also, clean windows convey the home is well kept and loved.

Declutter

Nothing will turn a buyer away more than walking through the front door and seeing stuff everywhere. Find a home for everything that is out of place. Pack up and store personal items like pictures and children’s toys. Decluttering makes the room appear larger, and buyers will start visually placing their belongings in the room.

Kitchens & Bathrooms

Kitchens and bathrooms are major selling points for buyers. These two rooms need to be spotless and sparkling from top to bottom. Clear toiletries and kitchen appliances from the countertops. Make sure that the fridge, dishwasher, oven, and stove are clean on the inside and outside. Organize your pantry closet, cabinets, and drawers. You would be surprised to know that some buyers will open anything and everything with a handle.

Dust

Dust all furniture, baseboards, ceiling fans, light fixtures, switch plates and ceilings. We all have seen that spider web in the corner that makes you stop and hesitate. Dusting takes very little time and makes your home look fresh and clean.

Floors

Floors are a significant selling point for buyers. As soon as a buyer walks through the front door, their eye is immediately drawn to the floor. Have your carpets and area rugs professionally cleaned. Hardwood floors will come alive with a little bit of polish. Make sure tile floors are clean and do not forget to clean the grout.

We hope you enjoyed these tips and tricks. Be sure to check back weekly for more expert advice. Happy house selling!
