If you are like most homeowner’s, you have a “paint store” worth of leftover house paint. Instead of throwing away any leftover paint, use it in another capacity throughout your home. If you are unsure where to use it, we have listed a few tips below for repurposing house paint, and you will be happy you did not throw it out this time. Let’s take a look!
Built-ins, Doors, Bookcases, China Cabinets, and Fireplace Mantels
Add a dramatic flair by painting the back, inside part of bookcases and china cabinets with a complimentary color. Additionally, since fireplace mantels are always the focal point of any room, add pizzazz by painting the mantel a contrasting color, or add some glam by painting architectural details with bronze, silver or gold paint. You can even paint an interior, exterior door or doorway the perfect accent color. Remember to pay attention to your home’s details and accent them with a bold, pop of color.
Kitchen Pieces
Start looking in your kitchen for flower pots, canisters, trivets, picture frames, and light fixtures to paint, or how about painting the base of your kitchen island with a different color? Small items take very little paint and are a perfect way to make your kitchen items tasteful. Just by freshening up a few kitchen items with leftover paint is the ideal opportunity to add pops of color into your design.
Second-Hand Furniture
Look in your garage, basement or attic for unused pieces of furniture. Start visiting local resell stores and cruising neighborhoods for yard and garage sales. Old dressers are perfect for adding additional storage while adding special interest to the room by painting the drawer fronts or legs similar or different colors but do not limit yourself to only furniture. Look for architectural decorative gates, corbels and cast iron works of art.
Outdoor Living Space
This is the perfect place to use leftover paint. Do you have patio or deck furniture that needs revamping? Paint a tabletop a different color than the legs, or vice versa. Also, painting flower pots and window boxes with a vibrant color makes your outdoor space happy and inviting! You can also paint a design or a border on the patio concrete or deck. Refresh garden statuaries by painting with leftover paint that compliments your furniture and accessories.
