Tips for Hosting a Graduation Party

5368180_SWhether you have a graduate in your own home or you are hosting a graduation party for a close friend, the planning process can become overwhelming. From cleaning your home to adding the right special touches to planning the menu, here are a few essential tips if you will be hosting such an event at your house.

Cleaning your home

Naturally, since you will be hosting several people in your home, you are going to want your entryway, living space and outdoor space to look pristine, but welcoming. Five days out from the party, dust any furniture and decorations in each of the rooms where guests will be. This includes outdoor furniture and tables. Two days before the party, deep clean any bathrooms guests may use and your kitchen. Kitchens tend to become gathering areas during parties! Also, set out any platters, bowls, plates and cutlery you plan to use.

Special touches

Making your guests feel welcome can be easy and as simple as adding little touches to rooms where guests will gather. Consider adding flower vases on coffee tables and the dining table. Grab graduation balloons to hang outside so guests know where the party is. Have a few light-scented candles burning in places where kids cannot reach them. Place a large basket with ribbons and/or balloons in the foyer for cards and create a welcoming space for larger gifts.

Food and drinks

Keep your menu simple. Depending on the number of guests you are expecting, consider easy items like a deli tray with rolls and condiments. Place bowls of chips and snack mix with sides of dips. Make a large fruit salad to add color to the table. Buy pre-made side salads at the grocery. Make a large bowl of punch and if desired, have a cooler with beers and sodas outside.

Helpful shortcuts

Always remember you do not necessarily have to do everything on your own. Plan to order desserts for the guests instead of baking yourself. Keep cleanup easier on yourself by using disposable (preferably recyclable) plates and cutlery. Mark your trash and recycle bins clearly so that guests can help clean up as the party goes on.
No matter who is graduating, if you are hosting a celebration at your home, use these simple tips to make everything a little easier to execute!
