The colors we add to our homes can really be influential on a home’s character. For instance, how do you want your home to be interpreted? Every color can have psychological influences on how we perceive them. A room that is all red may provoke anger; however, with the right ratios, it can also feel very passionate. We tend to categorize colors by three main titles; colors can either be warm, cool, or neutral. Each can have an effect on the environment. However, the unique thing about pastels is that they are muted colors. This muting characteristic can actually help take colors that are extremely warm or cool and help neutralize them in our homes. To help you better understand, we focused on the powerful impact that pastels can have on a design. Let’s take a look!
Tints and Shades
Every color has its own psychological influences. Take blue, for example. If you add blue décor to a room, you can create a cool-toned atmosphere. This cool-tone may make your environment feel more relaxed and passive. When you take a color, however, you can place different hues and shades onto it. The color lime green has a totally different feel than forest green. This is because of the use of tints and shades.
Muting a Color to Make It Neutral
Likewise, you can mute a color by creating a more pastel-tone. This is done by taking away some of the saturation. With less saturation, the color can still be present in your design, yet not have as powerful of an influence. This can be a great way to create a neutral atmosphere without changing the tone of the environment. Likewise, you can use these pastel tones in a room subtly without disturbing other color themes. For instance, if you have a warm-toned room with reds and yellows, you can splash in some pastel blues while not taking away from the room’s flow.
Spring Décor
Pastels are great for use in your spring design. Spring is a colorful time of the year. Adding a plethora of colors is always fun. These colors are not as robust as summertime colors yet are still present. Try adding some pastel colors to your design to help liven the atmosphere during the springtime.
What do you think about the pastel colors? Do you use them in your design? They can be a powerful tool that should be appreciated in every home. Learning to master some pastel colors is a great way to liven up your atmosphere.
