Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring Care & Maintenance

Many homeowners and businesses have been crazing over luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring and for a good reason. This flooring system can come in many diverse, high-quality styles and patterns. From mimicking luxurious hardwood floors to the most realistic tile layouts, LVP has a style for any design. Plus, it is a floating flooring system, which can be installed over many surfaces with little to no prep required. It is also waterproof, which allows it to be environments where other flooring options would fail.

While above all, this floor is also extremely durable and low-maintenance! Having such a versatile flooring option makes it extremely adaptable for almost any situation. However, while this floor is low-maintenance, it should still be cleaned and cared for properly to get the greatest longevity out of the product. To help, here are three things to consider:

Protection

Maintenance and care begin before cleaning your floors. The best way to improve your flooring’s longevity is to prevent unnecessary damage and wear prior to it happening. While luxury vinyl planking is durable, it is not impervious to damage. If you have heavy furniture, chairs, tables, or cabinets, you should place protective felt pads beneath the legs of all furnishings – this can help prevent gouges and scratches. Also, be mindful when moving heavy furniture. You may want to place larger items on sliders or cloth before dragging across your room.

Prevention

To begin keeping your floors clean, start with preventing dirty foot traffic. Consider taking your shoes off in your home. You can also add rugs and welcome mats to help catch unwanted debris.

Quick Clean

While vinyl plank flooring is very durable, it does not require heavy-duty equipment to clean. Simply wipe up spills with a paper towel. You do not need to use heavy-duty cleaning products to clean your flooring. Less is more when using a swifter mop or a liquid-based cleaner. Also, be sure to use a traditional broom and dustpan to sweep away unwanted dust and debris.

The simplicity of this low-maintenance floor is one of the many reasons people purchase it. Remember to keep your LVP flooring clean and prevent unwanted dirt from accumulating. Some simple preventatives and protection will allow your floor to look brand new for many years to come!
