How to Enhance Your Fireplace Mantel

Fireplaces can easily become one of the most powerful focal points in a room. They are aesthetically pleasing and can offer heating uses as well as beauty. When having a room with a fireplace, it is essential to recognize its potential. Many fireplaces come with a mantel directly above them. This is a way for you to be creative and express your design. While traditionally, televisions can be mounted above the mantel, not all architectural layouts make sense for this design. Some living rooms or dens may have a fireplace away from your primary seating area. If you are looking to facilitate the beauty of your fireplace, you will need to enhance your fireplace mantel. Here are several decorating tips that can turn your mundane fireplace into the stunning focal point it deserves:

Artwork

A picture says a thousand words. There are thousands of images to hang and thousands of ways to display them. Consider one giant picture to be the focal point. You can also create a gallery wall with different sized pictures and frames. Your mantel can also serve as a shelf to sit or layer a couple of photos on top of it. You have the power to decide what best expresses your design taste with artwork.

Mirrors

Mirrors are another one of designers’ best friends. Mirrors can help make the illusion that a room is bigger. They help reflect light, which in turn opens the atmosphere even more. Plus, a mirror can come in all different shapes and sizes. You can put three vertical mirrors next to each other to give an illusion of a taller space above the mantle. You can also facilitate the same trick horizontally to make the illusion of a longer fireplace. Mirrors are great at creating optical illusions and can work with any design theme!

Minimal Décor

Another simple trick is adding simple décor above your fireplace. You can put plants, vases, candles, books, and other great décor options above your fireplace. Your mantle is an opportunity to add to your overall atmosphere. Just be selective when creating your mantel. Do not make it too cluttered that it can take away from the architecture of the fireplace.

Consider all of these tricks when enhancing your fireplace mantel. Just keep in mind that different tricks work better with different design themes. When choosing how you want to decorate your mantel, be selective and precise. Your fireplace can make a very strong impact on any design if done properly.
