How to Successfully Work from Home

If you are one of the privileged American’s who has the ability to work from home, you have probably recognized the advantages and disadvantages.  Work can come with stresses of coworkers, time management, and even late hours.  Home can come with its own set of distractions as well.  When working from home, you should find a balance between comfort and functionality.  If your space is too comfortable, you will struggle staying focus, but if it lacks comfort, you will dread your work environment.  Here are three key tricks to have your workspace at home perfect in order to accomplish all you need to get done.

Functionality Over Comfort

Try not to have your work environment in too comfy of a spot.  You want your space to have enough comfort to allow you to work, but not enough to make you feel relaxed and at home.  If your work is at a computer, try to designate an office space to where you will work.  Desk with a chair is the perfect functional combination.  Working on a bed or couch or even in front of a television can quickly become very distracting.

Well-Lit

Natural lighting is ideal, but not all rooms offer windows.  Install task lighting at your workspace.  Task lighting can be a lamp or light installed directly in your task area.  A well-lit area will help keep your brain functioning and on task.  You can also add mirrors to help move light more freely through your room.  Painting your area, a light neutral color can let light reflect as well.

Distraction-Free

Eliminate distractions from your home workspace.  Windows can be great but also can cause distractions, depending on your outside atmosphere.  Decide whether looking out your window is beneficial or distracting.  Televisions, radios, and other noises can cause distractions as well.  You want your workspace to be as distraction-free as possible. Schedule breaks and work until you reach those times.  Keeping a scheduled work plan can help keep you on task and avoid household distractions.

Working at home is a great opportunity.  Make sure you allow your living space to accommodate your work.  Designing an office or workstation is an ideal way to keep you focused on your work.  For more great tips and tricks, be sure to subscribe!
